BIODIESEL PRODUCTION

REDUCED CARBON FOOTPRINT WITH RENEWABLE METHANOL

Biodiesel is a renewable alternative fuel which offers reduced emissions from combustion across mobility segments. It is used as a direct replacement or blended with diesel fuel and has for decades been used for many different fuel applications. It is typically produced by reacting vegetable oil or animal fats with short chain alcohols in the presence of a catalyst, a process known as trans-esterification.

As a clean-burning, substitute for petroleum diesel, biodiesel produced from sustainable raw materials enables decreased global warming impacts from transport and reduces dependency on fossil fuels.

Methanol plays a large role in the biodiesel production process, making up about 10% of the required raw materials. As renewable methanol can directly substitute fossil methanol in any methanol application, biodiesel made using renewable methanol provides significant benefits to biodiesel producers by lowering its overall carbon footprint and making it fully renewable. CRI has sold methanol for biodiesel production across different markets since 2012.
